PRIMEURS 2022 – THE VINTAGE OF THE CENTURY

The vine plants’ impressive capacity of resilience on the property’s gravelly terroirs did not even reach its limits in the face of the unique weather conditions in 2022 ! Forgetting the records set for the 2018 vintage, we thought we had seen it all in 2020… but this 2022 vintage shuffled the cards again and made those two years look like polar vintages! So different to the previous vintage, this 2022 is a true miracle.

The cool, refreshing nights had a buffer effect on the extraordinarily high daytime temperatures in this the hottest ever vintage on record in Bordeaux. The grapes were quite unique, small, concentrated and ripe, with a disconcerting acidity. Everything is there in this wine, nothing out of place, like a perfectly round sphere, dense, velvety and vibrant, the ultimate harmony.

Who could have imagined such alchemy ? Such freshness, elegance, richness in the hottest and earliest vintage of Bordeaux history! There was no traditional recipe to follow in such singular conditions. You needed a Terroir, and a good dose of adaptability along with the common sense of an experienced farmer to be rewarded, in the end, with grapes offering incredible harmony.

The fact is that, this time, Bordeaux has probably produced the greatest vintage of the last fifty years ; we are sure it will not be the last, and look forward to tasting this immense 2022 with you over the decades to come !
