Les Fiefs de Lagrange – Other vintages

Fiefs_2014

THE VINTAGE

Early bud burst due to a mild winter, then few episodes of rains during the summer, despite a sunny last fortnight of July. A miraculous Indian summer from September to October. Bringing with it a hot and dry period with only 7mm of rain over 40 days.

TASTING NOTE

A complex nose, with a mouth that is “gourmande” is how to describe this great vintage of Les Fiefs de Lagrange! Cherry, blackcurrant, liquorice and pepper aromas dominate the palate but also with a cool roundness that brings with it a certain elegance. A long finish for this wine whose vines have an average age of 32 years.

THE VINTAGE

A cold and wet winter followed by a cool and rainy spring which induced coulure in the Merlot. The summer conditions were among the best in 15 years, with July being a hot month and August being a dry month. Summer therefore accelerated the ripening phenomena and the deterioration of the plants aromatic compounds.

TASTING NOTE

Les Fiefs de Lagrange 2013 offers a powerful nose with plenty of vanillary red fruit interlaced with blueberry and kirsch. The palate swhos refined tannins and a beautiful structure. The finish is composed and very focused.

THE VINTAGE

A complex climate marked by the cold in February and by heavy rains in April, June and October. August was however considerably dry, warm and sunny. After veraison, the climatic conditions were conducive to maturation.

TASTING NOTE

A very beautiful of Cabernet Sauvignon expression on this 2012 vintage, fruity notes of blackcurrant, licorice, pepper and mocha. There is a lot of

freshness and roundness in these Fiefs that make it the main characteristics of the vintage. With an average vine age of 32 years, this gourmet wine,

surprising for its elegance, can be tasted now but will amaze you by its ability to age.

THE VINTAGE

Unusual climate with April and May exceptionally hot and dry. June, July and August are more “oceanic” with an alternative of very hot and rainy weather. September is moderate like in the last years.

TASTING NOTE

Crimson red color. The fruity nose (cherrys, raspberry and redcurrant) gives freshness to this early vintage. The Cabernet Sauvignon elegantly brings the tannic structure that is needed. Good length for this wine whose vines have an average age of 30 years and over.

THE VINTAGE

An unusual combination of dryness and cold. An outstanding sunshine from May to the end of October. The growth cycle slows down over the last weeks due to the drought which leads us to a late picking. A vintage marked by an outstanding concentration of tannins of extreme fineness.

TASTING NOTE

One of the main criteria in tasting the 2010 vintage is its freshness correlated with a strong tannic structure, which allows it to enter in line with the vintages of 1990, 1996 and 2000. Spicy notes, black and ripe fruit, vivid at this stage of aging. Perhaps the expression of Petit Verdot, kept this year for the blending of Les Fiefs de Lagrange.

Fiefs_2009

THE VINTAGE

Surprisingly, 2009 is not a very hot year (nowhere near the heatwave of 2003), nor is it a very dry one such as 2002 or 2005. However, the arrival of rainfall and warmth corresponded perfectly to the vine’s needs during its growth cycle. Very good climatic conditions during the months of August, September and October. The last 10 days of September and the first of October were even the best of the year.

TASTING NOTE

Notes of black cherry, liquorice, and blackcurrant typical of Les Fiefs de Lagrange. When opening up, the wine suprises by its youth, and its freshness with minty aromas. The attack is silky, rich and smooth, carried by the 57% of Cabernet Sauvignons and the 8% of Petit Verdots that maintain a certain density in the wine, as well as spicy and smoky aromas. This 2009 is one of the references for Les Fiefs de Lagrange, which is at it peak today, but which you can also leave 10 years in the cellars.
