In the vineyards, our team of around thirty men and women, some of whom have been connected to the estate for several generations, draws on its deep-rooted expertise to guide the grapes to perfect ripeness.
No fewer than four oenologists work in close harmony with the viticulture team, joined by a fifth during the blending period. Complementary in their skills yet free to express their own sensibilities, they come together each year in a spirit of mutual respect and attentive dialogue around a shared commitment: uncompromising quality.
Alongside them, a dedicated R&D team is focused on continuous improvement and on anticipating the challenges of climate change.
REVEALING EXPRESSION THROUGH PRECISION
The vineyard was very precisely mapped, and 103 different plots were defined, allowing for a truly made-to-measure approach to vineyard management and vinification to best express its character and potential.
Precision
– in grape variety and viticultural choices for each plot.
– during harvesting, with each plot being picked at optimum maturity, which is paramount for the quality of the future wine
– in the vat room where small vats allow for separate vinification of each plot to obtain the best from each one and offer more finely delineated choices at the moment of blending.
– in blending, to most faithfully express the history and character of each vintage.
– in bottling, undertaken exclusively on the estate when the wine is completely ready, not before, or after.
Selection
A highly selective approach for the Château Lagrange Grand Vin, rarely representing more than 40% of the harvest, leaves outstanding plots and old vines for the elaboration of the second wine, Les Fiefs de Lagrange.
