A VINEYARD AT ITS PEAK
Perched on two Gunzian gravel slopes, one of which boasts the highest point in the appellation, the beautiful vineyard of Château Lagrange stretches over 118 hectares in a single block.
Extraordinarily, the surface area and plots today are exactly those appearing in the 1855 classification of Napoleon the Third. Planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit-Verdot, it is divided into more than 100 individual plots.
11 hectares are also dedicated to white grape varieties with Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris and Semillon.
A VIRTUOUS APPROACH
Working in harmony with nature to express the best of the terroirs whilst preserving resources for future generations, facing up to and seeking solutions to climate change, keeping the activity’s environmental footprint to a minimum … all these actions in favour of the environment that Château Lagrange has undertaken several decades ago, follow the philosophy of the Suntory Group directed by the Saji family since 1899, whose motto is: ‘‘ Preserve the harmony between Man and Nature. ‘‘
In this approach, no chemical herbicides are used on the domaine, and a natural grass cover is maintained in many vine plots to encourage the development of the underground ecosystem and limit erosion. Our cellars boast a positive energy balance thanks to solar panels on the roof, again improving resource management.
Biodiversity around the vine plots is encouraged : planting hedges, introducing sheep to graze the fields, re-introducing bee hives and bird boxes, implementing late mowing, sowing wild flowers: all of these actions will develop the auxiliary flora and faura.
